OUTSTANDING play by the team from Edithvale Bowling Club produced a runaway win in the Dandenong and District Charity Bowls Day on Sunday last week.
Bowlers from Berwick and Pakenham competed in the event, which finished with a large crowd watching the nine-end final between Edithvale and Narre Warren at the Noble Park Bowls Club.
Earlier in the day the Edithvale team, skipped by Alan Cousens, won at Keysborough Bowls Club and the Narre Warren team, skipped by Eddie Gibb, was successful at Noble Park Bowls Club. They then went to the final at Noble Park.
The winning team - comprising Alan Cousens (skip), Norm Overson (lead), Barbara Overson (second) and Pauline Cousens (third) - received $500 cash plus individual trophies of bowls bags from eLuggage and runners-up $240 for the team and individual trophies.
Along with their individual prizes, the winning team was presented with the Wal Turner Shield.
Runner-up was the team of Eddie Gibb (skip), Nancy Pugh (lead), Enid Gibb (second) and Mick Roswell (third).
Now in its 24th year, the event has raised more than $160,000 for local charities. The day is organised by the Rotary Club of Noble Park, in conjunction with a committee comprising representatives of all lawn bowls clubs in Greater Dandenong and Roy Aspinall of Highway Bowls Centre.
