MOONEE Valley Racing Club's upcoming race meeting will be shifted to Betfair Park, Sandown, this Saturday.
The Moonee Valley track has attracted criticism from within the racing industry, with calls for a total redevelopment.
But the MVRC is confident it can overcome problems and is looking to implement major changes when harness racing concludes at the venue early next year.
After recent renovations of the Moonee Valley course proper, it was decided it would be in the best interests of the club and industry stakeholders that the July 11 race meeting be transferred to Sandown.
"The decision was made in the club's best long-term interest," MVRC chief executive Michael Browell said.
"Moving the meeting on July 11 will ensure the best racing surface over the spring period, leading into a hectic summer program."
Moonee Valley has a busy program over summer as the venue for night racing. A strong eight-race program is set down for July 11, with the feature being the $100,000 Macdonald Steeplechase (3900metres).
Sandown will also host the Victoria Racing Club's $202,000 Grand National Hurdle and $202,000 Grand National Steeplechase on Sunday, August 30.
Racing events are scheduled to return to Moonee Valley for the Hiskens Steeple meeting on Saturday, July 25.
