Timely knock saves day for Narre North

16 Mar, 2010 11:31 AM
NARRE North wicketkeeper Scott Brandon fell five runs short of a century in a match-saving performance in the turf 3 grand final against North Dandenong on Saturday.

Coming to the crease with his side in trouble at 6-157, Brandon set about getting the innings back on track with patience and wisely selected shots.

Brandon steered Narre to a competitive 258. Chris Potalej contributed 47 and Shane Luck scored 42 down the order. Shane Smith was the best of the bowlers with 5-51 on day one.

In The Journal senior match of the week, Buckley Ridges rallied to post 9-212 on day one in the turf 1 grand final against Hallam Kalora Park.

Having scored 317 against minor premier Berwick in the semi-final, Buckley Ridges was in early trouble. Enter skipper Paul Franks with a controlled 46. A rear-guard action from Buckley's lower order batsmen David Wheeler (45), Paul Rudd (29), Matthew Goodwright (20 not out) and Shane Rozario (16), steered their side to 9-212.

Skipper Craig Booth (3-41) and Steve Chapman (3-63) were the pick of the Hallam bowlers.

In The Journal junior match of the week, Springvale South looked set to topple Berwick in the under 13 (1) grand final.

Chasing 83, Springvale South was at 1-52 after 10 overs.
