Junior's kitted out, but where to play?

14 Sep, 2009 02:40 PM
AN increase in teams and a shortage of grounds in the City of Casey has forced the Dandenong District Cricket Association to play all its under-11 games on Friday nights this season.

The decision follows an increased participation rate with 17 teams being added to the junior competition. Venues have been stretched and grounds cannot be found for 11 of the teams.

DDCA secretary Ray Nicholls said grounds in Casey were at a "premium" so both hard and soft-ball versions of the under-11 competition would be played on Friday nights.

"This, together with the rejigging of grounds, will also assist us in accommodating all under-13, 15, 17 Saturday morning teams," he said.

"Clubs may take the opportunity to revisit their under-11 numbers and grades with some players and/or teams swapping between hard ball and soft ball.

"Once all under-11 clubs have finalised the process and advised their revised team numbers, we'll liaise with each club individually regarding ground changes. Although we're happy for clubs to take this initiative.

"Even though there are only 14 initial teams in the under-11 hard-ball competition and 29 teams in the soft-ball grades, the opportunity will be taken to localise this grade."
