NARRE Warren North could become home to a spectacular lookout.
At a council meeting last Tuesday, Casey councillors agreed to place a draft Kurll Park/Narre Warren Landfill master plan on public display for a month to seek community input before re-considering the proposal.
The concept was first floated in council in 2005, when it was resolved to consider a lookout and a restaurant, similar to the SkyHigh bistro and lookout at Mount Dandenong, in any master plan for the site.
However, the closed landfill and the precarious geographical nature of parts of the site, which experienced a landslip in 2000, may rule out a restaurant, the proposal for which will be given extra consideration in a separate council report.
Key elements of the plan include:
- Two viewing platforms with a connection to the existing lookout and cairn in Kurll Park.
- A shelter, picnic and barbecue facilities.
- Existing grass equestrian trails to be upgraded to gravel and more perimeter trails established.
- Major tree planting works.
Cr Simon Curtis said that while the council should tread carefully as a former landfill was involved, the site offered great potential.
"Obviously there might be some risk management around ... I'd like to be mindful of that before making any rash decisions."
