Servo gets green light

08 Feb, 2010 10:15 AM
A PROPOSED 24-hour service station and convenience store along McGregor Road in Pakenham has been given the green light.

Last week, Cardinia Shire councillors voted 4-3 in favour of granting a planning permit for the development at 1 Livingstone Boulevard. Mayor Graeme Legge used his casting vote to give the go-ahead.

The proposal is for a single-storey building, centrally located petrol pumps, four car spaces, an entry point from McGregor Road and from the existing car park.

The council received four objection letters from neighbouring landholders citing concerns such as road safety, devaluation of property, noise pollution, inappropriate location and hours, plus potential safety issues related to hazardous chemicals.

Cr Brett Owen, who voted against the development, said an entrance, off McGregor Road, could cause traffic issues. "I was of the opinion that VicRoads concerns should have been listened to, but the entrance is controlled by the council," he said.

VicRoads commented that the left turn entrance into Livingstone Boulevard was too close to the proposed service station entry and could create confusion for motorists.

An application for a car-wash next to the proposed service station is at the Victorian Civil Adminstrative Tribunal.
