Libs seek Ombudsman probe

29 Jun, 2009 10:38 AM
OPPOSITION attacks against Casey councillor Kevin Bradford and his former Labor MP employer intensified with a barrage of questions about them fired at the local government minister in Parliament last week.

The intense questioning came from Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu - who called for a wider Ombudsman's investigation into Casey - and Nationals leader Peter Ryan.

In response, Cr Bradford said: "This is another cowardly attempt under the protection of parliamentary privilege by the leader of the Nationals as part of a Coalition smear campaign - led by the upper house member Inga Peulich in the lead-up to next year's state election - in which I am now being embroiled."

Mr Baillieu and Mr Ryan joined forces to question Local Government Minister Richard Wynne over a 2008 Worklogic Consulting report into a bullying complaint by former Casey employee Jennie Lee against Cr Bradford.

A Government spokesman later clarified that Mr Wynne was not saying a wider investigation into Casey Council by the Ombudsman was under way.

Cr Bradford said he gave no weight to the Worklogic report as the consultant had been handpicked by his opponents at Casey, and Local Government Victoria found he had no case to answer.

"Questions need to be answered as to why other concerns raised by this former employee who resigned nearly 12 months ago weren't equally dealt with such veracity as the sole allegation against me was ..."
