When it comes to art, Monique Clift's two young sons love monsters, mayhem and madness.
Jack, 8, and Sam, 6, dabbled in imaginative drawings since they were very young. Their works have become the inspiration behind the printmaker and artist's latest works.
Using lithographs and linocuts Monique explores the world of boys and their mind adventures.
It all started with the boys using a megasketcher, a children's toy that allows sketches that can then be erased.
"Their drawings were so lovely that I didn't want to see them erased," Monique said.
"In their original form the drawings had a very raw nature about them. I have been conscious to keep that quality in their translation into prints."
The boys were so enthusiastic to see their work transformed into prints Monique could hardly keep up with them.
"Some works have been altered from their original design to enhance their aesthetic sensibilities. This process has always been done in collaboration with the children. This body of work is a celebration of child art."
Monique, a secondary-school teacher in visual arts, worked as a designer for Robert Gordon in Pakenham from 1991 to 2000.
Both boys are just as inspired as their mum.
"Books make me want to draw, because they have pictures in them...I like it when Mum makes my pictures into prints," Sam says.
Jack agrees. "When I get inspiration, I just pick up the megasketcher and start drawing."
Monsters, Madness and Mayhemis on throughout May at Dogma Libran Art Gallery, 62 A'Beckett Road, Narre Warren North. Open Friday to Sunday from 11am-4pm.
